The Art of Fashion: Installing Allusions
19 September 2009 – 10 Januar 2010
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam

“In The Art of Fashion, this autumn Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen investigates the borders between fashion and art. Today’s fashion designers use installations and performances, and their designs are often more sculptural than wearable. Five of them have been commissioned to make new work specifically for the exhibition.

The H+F Fashion on the Edge programme allows designers to abandon the strict rules of fashion and make work unconstrained by other considerations. The relationship between the two disciplines is revealed by these and other works at the cutting edge of fashion and art.

The Art of Fashion has been compiled by guest curators José Teunissen (lecturer at ArtEZ Arnhem) and Judith Clark (exhibition maker, London).
The exhibition was made possible by the H+F Fashion on the Edge programme of author and art collector Han Nefkens, and by the Mondriaan Foundation, SNS Reaal Fonds and the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds.
The Dutch edition of ELLE celebrates its twentieth anniversary this year and is our media partner. The exhibition is a major part of the official programme of Holland Art Cities 2009-2010.”
